Candidate Statement
Together, we work for health care; affordable housing; protecting tenants; mass transit; education; equality for women, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities and people of color; reproductive freedom; protecting working people and their families and the environment, and opposing excessive development. We created the Hudson River Park.
I’m the author of the NY Health Act for single-payer health coverage.
I introduced the first same-sex marriage bill in the Assembly and I sponsor GENDA, the bill to protect transgender rights.
I chair the Assembly Health Committee. I fight for school health clinics, quality home health care and nursing homes, and HIV prevention and services.
I sponsored New York’s medical marijuana law, and I’m working to allow adult use.
My community office helps thousands of people with housing and other problems. And we work with block associations and community groups.
I work for you full time – I have no other job.
