Frequently Asked Questions:

Which congressional districts in New York City are holding competitive primary elections?

The Democratic Party will hold primaries in the 5th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 14th, and 16th districts. Republican Party voters in the 11th District will also have a chance to select their party’s nominee.

Who is allowed to vote in the primary elections?

To vote in either the Democratic or Republican party primary elections, you must be enrolled in the party. Click this link to verify your voter registration and party enrollment status.

Are there other primaries aside from the Republican and Democratic parties?

In addition, there will be “opportunity to ballot,” or write-in, contests in 3 districts. Voters enrolled in the Conservative Party will be able to cast a primary ballot in the 11th Congressional district. A similar write-in contest will be held by the Reform Party in the 7th and 15th Congressional districts. Because the Reform Party conducts open primaries, any voter who is not enrolled in another party and who lives in those Congressional districts may cast a ballot in the Reform Party primary.
